Hole - 23 - An ABC show on the US Aircraft carrier catapult issues.
This directly affects Submarine deliveries for Australia under AUKUS as they are built by the same ship building company.
Steam or elctro-magnetic? That is the Question!
Background added here, not part of the post as published.
The link is real. Newport News Shipbuilding, part of Huntington Ingalls Industries, is the only yard in the United States that builds aircraft carriers, and it is also one of the two yards building Virginia-class submarines, alongside General Dynamics Electric Boat. The boats Australia is to be sold come off that production line. Work competing for the same docks, the same skilled trades and the same management attention is not a separate programme from Australia’s point of view.
The catapult question is the Ford class replacing steam catapults with an electromagnetic launch system. The full register is at The Holes in AUKUS and the Australian Defence Plan.
